4 Easy Tips for Swollen Feet on the Plane
The end of 2024 is coming in front of us, you might have a long trip plan to visit your family or friends. One thing that bothers you in this season is the swollen feet on the plane. Nobody wants to walk all day drugging their swollen feet. So here are some tips to help you for a perfect trip experience.
Why are our feet swollen?
First of all, what makes our feet swollen? The swollen feet called “edema”caused when our feet have bad fluid circulation. Especially when we are on the plane we are sitting on the chair for hours and hours in low air pressure, it expands blood vessels and fluid leaks between tissues more easily. This makes our feet heavy and puffy.
4 easy massage tips for footrest
Thigh massage
Place both hands under your knee, and slide your hand towards the top of your thigh. Keep giving comfortable pressure on your thigh to help fluid circulation better. As you repeat this motion 3-5 times, your legs start feeling lighter and lighter.
Calf massage
The calves are known as “the second heart” of the body and have a lot of pressure points.
First, place the back of your under knee on the other leg’s kneecap. Swing the top leg a couple times to stimulate pressure points. Secondly, move your top leg towards your body, make sure your calf feels the pressure of the kneecap. Move your top knee back and forth a few times to generate your blood flow.
Ankle rotation
Extend one leg and slowly move your ankle circle to the both sides a couple times.
Your ankle might feel hurt if the speed is not appropriate so make sure you do this process carefully and comfortably.
Foot arch pressing
For this massage, we use a small massage ball. There are a lot of options for you to choose out there from wooden types to gel types. They have different shapes and textures so take time to explore to decide the one fits you most before your trip.
There are three parts to relax with the ball, the first part is the arch of the foot. Put the ball under the arch and move it a few times. Apply the same thing to the heel and base of the toe.
